What Makes Us Different?
The Boston Nanny Centre was founded in 1988 by Barbara Chandra right here in Newton, MA. 35 years later, our team brings together over 3 decades and 50 years of caregiving experience. Our in-depth knowledge of the nanny industry, signature placement process and discriminating nanny application screening system has allowed us to differentiate ourselves in our industry and has earned us the esteemed title of one of Boston’s leading nanny staffing agencies.
Our Family-First Philosophy
We are dedicated to not only curating the most qualified pool of caregiving candidates for your consideration, but assisting in matching you with an individual who will become a treasured part of your home and household. Our family-first philosophy and approach to nanny placement emphasize your family’s core values and parenting philosophies.
In order to foster the most loving and loyal staffing relationships, we understand that it is just that – a relationship. Both our nannies and the families they serve need to feel that their relationship is built on a mutual respect and trust for the role each plays in each other’s lives.
Meet Your Team
Our Boston Nanny Centre’s core team is made up of both mothers and past-nannies, each passionately dedicated to providing both our families and nannies with the highest level of service and support, from initial application, through placement, and beyond.
Barbara Chandra
Barbara, a native of Wisconsin, graduated from Mount Mary College, and received her Master's in Special Education from the University of the Philippines. Barbara was a founding member of the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies (APNA) and is a past president of the Woman's Club of Newton Highlands. As a Great British Baking Show enthusiast, she enjoys baking chocolate chip cookies with her youngest grandson. Barbara is married with two grown children and three grandchildren.
Laura Chandra
Laura, a Massachusetts native, graduated from Mount Holyoke College and received her Master’s degree in Financial Planning from Bentley University. Prior to joining BNC, she worked as a financial planner and with children as a camp director, softball coach, and tutor. She currently sits on the board of The Association of Premier Nanny Agencies as Treasurer and Diversity Committee Chair as well as on the board of The Nanny Relief Fund as Treasurer. She enjoys spending time with her son, being outdoors, horseback riding, and writing. On the weekends, you can find her attending open-houses with absolutely no intention of buying a house.
Jennifer Oates
Jen is the driving force behind BNC’s daily operations. Jennifer joined the agency in June of 2006, after working as a nanny and residential counselor. A native of Rhode Island, Jennifer attended Colby College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish. From there, she moved to the Boston area to attend Tufts University, earning her Master’s degree in Child Development. Jen brings master turtle catching skills from her days of nannying and enjoys perusing the aisles at Ocean State Job Lot. Jennifer currently lives in Stoughton.
Sarah Kelly
Sarah is our honorary Canadian, having been born and raised on the border in Maine. She attended the University of Connecticut and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Communication. With her natural curiosity and constant desire to learn, she never hesitates to run to Google to start a deep dive and learn something new. As an avid traveler, her favorite destination is Switzerland and she is eyeing Australia as her next destination. Sarah never passes up the opportunity to try something new or go on a spontaneous adventure.
Robin Cochrane
Robin obtained her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education in 1990 and has never stepped away from the field. She moved from the classroom to providing long term private care and soon after became a newborn care specialist, providing postpartum support for new families in and around the greater Boston area. Her impactful experience working with infants, young children, and their families lent itself perfectly to becoming a nanny placement and family coordinator, where she successfully guides both parties to their perfect fit. When Robin isn't working her magic in the office, she can be found spending time with family and enjoying her role as a doting grandmother!
Erica Ruggles
Erica graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing Communications; Advertising and Public Relations. She spent over 10 years providing administrative and operations support to clinical research groups at two of Boston's biggest hospitals before transitioning to the childcare/nanny placement industry. As a mom of 3 school-age boys, she understands the importance of finding quality childcare. Erica grew up in Massachusetts and currently resides in New Hampshire where she enjoys less traffic and living in a small town with no stop lights.
Sebastian “Sebi” Chandra
Sebi, BNC’s go to document outsourcer, is Laura’s son and Barbara’s grandson. He loves to bake cookies and cake (and eat them), see how many rocks he can fit in his pocket, and the color pink. He attends preschool at an outdoor-based program where he spends his day on adventures stomping through the woods and fields.
Gus Oates
Gus is Jen's pet shih tzu and the light of our lives here at BNC. As our Chief Fun Officer, Gus spearheads all things exciting in the office and enjoys greeting every person who comes to the office. He is a jack of many trades, with his most refined skills being in rabbit chasing, taking really long walks around the block, and getting the zoomies when there is fresh snow on the ground.
